
Contact Lenses--Do’s and Don’ts

DO’S
- It is important to wash your hands prior to handling lenses to remove any excess dirt and bacteria.
- Clean/disinfect your lenses with the solutions dispensed and recommended by our office.
- Follow your wearing schedule.
- Store your lenses in the recommended solution when not wearing them.
- Remove your lenses if discomfort, extreme redness, or burning.
- Use proper eye protections or sun wear when needed (sun, sports, & occupational).
- Keep appointments for follow-up care.
- Always bring your eyewear and contact lenses with you each time you come to our office.
- Contact your doctor’s office immediately if problems arise.
- Keep an updated pair of eyeglasses for emergency back up.
- Use eye makeup designed for contact lens wearers.
- Have a complete visual examination once a year.
DONT’S
- Wear your lenses beyond the recommended schedule.
- Sleep in your (daily wear) lenses.
- Shower or swim in lenses (unless using swim goggles/mask).
- Wear your lenses around aerosol sprays or noxious fumes.
- Use any products other than those recommended. (IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE DROPS LIKE VISINE OR MURINE.)
- Take advice of other contact lens wearers without consulting your doctor.
